Screw and nut design

The CSB-LMS® standard trapezoidal lead screw is manufactured according to DIN 103. The high spiral lead screw uses a special thread angle design to achieve high moving speed at low speeds.
The CSB-LMS® lead screw is made of stainless steel and formed by a cold rolling process. They are equipped with a highly wear-resistant CSB-EPB13 nut design. For higher loads or special applications, CSB-EPB5A can be used for nuts.

Please note: In addition to changes when the maximum load rating is reached, thermal expansion during operation can also cause changes. We recommend specific experiments to test the feasibility of screw nuts in low or high temperature applications.

Efficient thread design

The CSB-LMS® high spiral lead screw and nut use a flat thread angle, the driving force is effectively converted into translational motion, and the power loss is lower than the standard trapezoidal thread angle. Due to the round tooth geometry, noise and vibration are reduced during non-lubricated movements.


Radial load and torque

Radial load or torque on the nut causes a single contact surface to overload, which severely affects the service life of the lead screw assembly. Therefore, it is important that the screws are properly installed and comply with all relevant form and position tolerances.

Required driving torque

The required driving torque of the screw nut depends on the axial load, the screw pitch, and the coefficient of friction between the screw thread surface and the nut. At high speeds, acceleration torque must be considered, which may lead to increased torque due to mounting accuracy. Dirt, dust, and poor surface finishes can lead to increased drive torque, which can increase drive torque. However, lubrication can temporarily reduce the required driving force.

Efficiency is the ratio of output power to input power. CSB-LMSTM guide nuts have a low coefficient of friction and are therefore highly efficient.
Under dry running conditions, single-head trapezoidal guide nuts are between 20% and 48% efficient. Fast-threaded guide nuts are between 50% and 80% efficient. Although the CSB-LMS® guide nut was developed for completely dry running, adding lubricant can increase efficiency.

CSB-EPB13 trapezoidal nuts are very suitable for wet environment applications. One of the characteristics of these materials is their low water absorption.

By making guide nuts from maintenance-free CSB-EPB® material, the CSB-LMSTM lead screw drive can achieve completely dry running.
By avoiding the use of lubricants, the adhesion of soft particles such as dust and fibers can be significantly reduced. Compared with traditional materials that require lubrication, the non-lubricated guide nut significantly improves the service life in dirty environments. However, in environments where pollution is severe and there are hard particles such as metal fragments or granite dust, the guide nut requires a protective cover.

Sliding screw drives are often accompanied by noise, especially with long screws and long strokes, which can cause self-excited vibrations in the motion system. The CSB-LMS® guide nut is made of friction-optimized CSBEPB® material with good sliding characteristics. The guide nut is quieter than traditional plastic or metal materials such as bronze or brass.

Flange type guide nut

The maximum tightening torque of the mounting flange type guide nut is 2.5Nm. We recommend fixing the mounting screws with a third-party medium, such as putting off the screw adhesive. For higher tightening torques, use lock washers.

Cylindrical guide nut

The outer diameter surface of the cylindrical guide nut is designed with threads. We recommend using a third-party medium (such as putting off screw glue) to fix the installation.
